Running Shoes

I headed to Lombardi Sports this evening to purchase some running shoes. I ended up with a pair of ASICs. This is the first time I've bought a pair of athletic shoes in about 15 years. I've been wearing the same pair of Nikes for the past decade and a half. I tried running in them on a treadmill the other night and it nearly killed my ankles and shins. This is the right time to upgrade, especially now that I am training for a marathon!

The New Workout Clothes

Thanks to Ross Dress For Less, I was able to find this ensemble for under $20. I'm on a budget, and I know that running shoes will run me an arm, a leg, and a few internal organs, so any where I can save, I'll do it. Gone are the faded B.U.M. Equipment shorts from the 80's!

I have made the commitment to train for a marathon. I should probably get new a new wardrobe, eh?

Half Marathon!

I made a very bold statement to Charlie and Dan over the weekend. I straight up told them that I will run the marathon with them next year. When I said this, I was caught up in excitement. A few days have now passed, and my mind has returned back to its sensible state. Having said that, my sensible mind told me to register for the San Jose Rock & Roll Half Marathon in October. That gives me two months to prepare for 13.1 miles. I can do this. I believe in myself and I will not allow myself to give up. I don't care if I am the last one limping across the finish line, I will do what I can to finish the race in 4 hours.

I started my training today. I "ran" 3 miles in 40 minutes. I put quotes around the word "ran" because I did what I consider to be a run, which is a jog/walk. Perhaps a better term to would be "jalked." Maybe "wogged?" Either way, it doesn't matter, as long as I am out here getting my heartbeat up and doing my best. This is going to be intense, but I'm in it all the way!

San Francisco Marathon

My two best friends ran the San Francisco Marathon today. Both of them finished with flying colors. I was there at the finish line to see both of them cross. Daniel had the same look on his face that Roger Federer had when he won his 15th Grand Slam Title at this year's Wimbledon. And Charlie? Well, let's just say that this guy *is* the Roger Federer of marathons. These two are such an inspiration to me. My walks pale in comparison to what they did today.

I am going to do it. Mark my words, I will have a medal hanging around my next year. I will run the San Francisco Marathon in 2010.
